Interior Decorating Idea – Do Colors Have To Match Perfectly In Every Room

Did you grow up with the interior decorating idea that colors had to match? Whether that idea was in reference to colors in home decor, shoes/purses, makeup, or any number of other areas of our lives, everything had to match! That thought is not as prevalent today but still merits attention especially as your home decorating idea begins to develop.

You might say that color is an imperfect science. If you don’t believe me, try looking through a paint sample display for that perfect color. Remember, the lighting in the store is much different than the lighting in your home which also changes with the weather conditions and the time of the day and year.

Let’s look at the pros for matching colors in your interior decorating idea:

* You have a favorite color
* Your favorite color makes a statement and you want lots of it
* You don’t want to make so many decisionsyou know what color you like and stick to it
* You love the challenge of perfectly matching colors
* Matching colors is second nature to you and you don’t want to change

Now, let’s look at the cons for matching colors in your interior decorating idea:

* It’s difficult to match color because of texture
* It’s difficult to match color because of light
* You want to incorporate several colors in your decorating plans
* You like the challenge of mixing and matching colors
* There is more flexibility and freedom to change your home decor over time

Consider a middle of the road approach to your interior decorating idea:

The middle of the road approach includes coordinating and grouping colors as well as paying attention to lighter and darker shades and tones. Putting three varying shades of purple together will look magnificent. Putting five reds with the same tone together will certainly give energy and pizzazz to a roomget the idea? What a great way to implement your interior decorating idea!

As you walk from room to room, color makes a home flow comfortably; it is the connecting component. In your mind you unknowingly take the color scheme from room to room for a few brief seconds. Use a single color as a theme that runs throughout the house while still providing each room with its own color persona. Keep that in mind as you are embarking on your next home decorating project.

As a side note, I read in a recent newspaper article that matching shoes and purses are making a comeback, but not as perfectly matched as in the pastfood for thought!

Different Themes Of Interior Design Ideas

Interior design ideas unique because they are designed by different people. Many individuals choose to decorate with a theme when doing up their home. There are many different themes that can be used as interior design ideas.

Victorian Theme

One particular theme that has become increasingly popular is the Victorian theme. Victorian themes are sometime also called American gothic. Queen Victoria reigned from 1837 to 1901 and during this time the many works that interior designers created made a profound mark on history. Victorian furniture was normally made from the darkest wood available and had very dramatic shape and texture. Wallpaper and stenciling were common in the Victorian era, as were elaborate decorations and motifs. Smooth, plastered walls, usually in light colors, could be found in the typical Victorian home. To decorate in a Victorian interior design idea is to decorate in excess. Any individual should expect very ornate, detailed pieces and truly eloquent design.

Western Theme

Another common theme in interior design ideas is the Western theme. The Western theme is an eclectic mixture of interior design ideas. In a typical Western themed home it is not uncommon to find items that seem out of place anywhere else. Things like old rifles become such common items as lamps when matched with a creative mind. Any Western theme is bound to be abundant in vibrant color patterns, normally found on furniture, rugs, and throws. Imperfection is perfectly at home in Western design and somehow strikes a decidedly beautiful balance. Decorating with Western design is bound to please many individuals.

More Interior Design Ideas and Themes

For those looking for a more artsy approach to interior design ideas, try an African theme. The African culture is a rich, primal one filled with beautiful art and bold contrasts and colors. African design is uniquely beautiful, combining a minimalist, organic approach with dramatic art and style. While African design is no doubt beautiful and eclectic, it has yet to become a nationwide scene. Many prefer to incorporate a sample of the African theme into their own interior design idea. However, with the varied approach that African design takes, it will not be long before it begins to appear in more and more homes across the country.

There are many more interior design ideas that are available. Any individual that wishes to incorporate a theme into their interior design ideas need only find what theme suits the individual’s personality and then have fun with it. Elaborating on a theme that any individual chooses to use is what will make the home unique and personable.

Insights Into Interior Design Designing In Style. Part Iii Traditional – Georgian

Interior design has always been impacted by fashion trends – both historically and in the modern day. In this article series, “Designing in Style,” I explore the meaning of style for interior designers. I draw on my experience working alongside many of London’s best-known interior design teams.

This third article in my series continues my discussion of traditional/period design, with a focus on the Georgian style.

In terms of dates, the Georgian period is generally considered to have extended from 1714 until 1830. It has since inspired one of the most popular traditional interior design schemes.

London design was considered world-class in Georgian times – UK craftspeople were highly skilled and uniquely specialised. The wealthiest classes insisted on the highest quality, with exacting standards in terms of dimensions and proportions.

A few designers were particularly famous during the Georgian era. Their names, ideas and concepts live on today in the many homes and residences that feature Georgian-inspired interior designs.

William Kent lived from 1684 until 1748 and was an architect/interior designer who is best known for his tables and chairs which featured extravagant gilt decorations and strong connections to Greek and Roman insignia. Today these traditional designs continue to be used by many London Interior Design Consultancies that specialise in the Georgian style.

Thomas Chippendale is a name famous to many discerning Londoners. This cabinet-maker lived from 1718 until 1779 and designed furniture that was less ostentatious than that of William Kent, consistent with British (and London) tastes at the time, and yet exceedingly graceful and refined. Interior designers today will adopt either Chippendale’s original designs or re-envisionments/replicas of his originals.

Finally, Robert Adam was an architect and interior designer who dominated the 1770s with his vivacious use of Roman and Greek motifs, including urns, tripods, and mythological iconography.

Today, London interior design consultancies tend to be cautious with Georgian designs, recognising that this style can look pretentious if too pronounced. Larger, more spacious London mansions with tall ceilings are best suited to the Georgian style of interior design.

The next article in my series “Designing in Style” moves away from historic traditions and focuses in on a timeless interior design classic – the rural countryside.

How do you make a room in your house or office a reflection of you? Where do you start? There is a quick and easy way, that won’t take a bite out of your wallet, to add a very personal, beautiful touch to your furnishings.

One great home decorating tip is with a customized shadow box to the style of your rooms. Once you get this art down you could even make some extra cash building boxes for others. To make a centerpiece out of an ordinary box, I will give you some empty shadow box ideas.

To begin you need to decide what size.

Simply run down to your local hobby or craft store to see the dozens of empty shadow boxes available. The choices can be a bit overwhelming. Just keep in mind where you are going to display your box and pick the best one for your new craft. For instance the bathroom usually requires only a small box. A small box can be used on top of a desk. The opposite is true also, look for bigger sizes to fill large spaces.

Find what style you like.

You can make a box for yourself, or give a gift personalized to a friend or loved one. Golf is a excellent theme for a personal gift. You could include inside some indoor-outdoor putting carpet, a ball and sand, and some old driver covers. This would make a great conversation piece for a home office space.

In your kitchen, some dried or silk flowers and fruit in your shadow box will create a bountiful harvest feel. A smaller version would fit well in your bathroom areas.

For the pet lover the animal themed shadow box is a great addition to their home. Dog bones and paw prints, or some of your cat’s favorite toys arranged with pictures of your animals show how much you love and care for the four legged members of your family.

Like sports? How about adding some miniature basketballs, baseball bats, or footballs available at your local craft store. For the bedroom you might like a Hawaiian theme. Some sand, a miniature palm tree and a lei would create a Hawaiian project.

If you are itching to make a room filled with your personality. Jot on down to your local craft store where a few supplies plus your imagination can give you a wonderful conversation piece. Or build some for other people and grab some extra cash.
